Greetings, Lumos Fitness Collective members! We’re excited to share a guide on how you can connect with your fellow fitness enthusiasts, participate in events, and much more via our vibrant online community on Slack.
Step 1: Joining our Slack Community
If you’re new to Slack, fear not. It’s a user-friendly platform that fosters communication and collaboration. Here’s how to sign up:

2. You’ll be taken to a page where you can input your email and create a password.
3. Slack will send you an email to verify your account. Click the confirmation link in that email, and you’re in!
Step 2: Understanding Slack Channels
Once you’ve joined, you’ll find several channels on the left side of the screen. Channels are like dedicated chat rooms where we discuss specific topics. Here are some you might be interested in:
1. #announcements – for gym-wide announcements and important updates.
2. #general – for general chatter, questions, etc.
3. #celebrationstation – where we post birthdays, new babies, and graduations.
4. #pets_of_lumos – post cute pictures of your furry ones, arrange petsitters, etc.
5. #swapsies- want to get rid of something that someone else might use? Post it here!
Feel free to browse the channels and join those that pique your interest!
Step 3: Interacting with the Community
Now, let’s dive into interacting with our lively community:
1. Commenting: To start a conversation or join one, type your message in the “Message #channel” box at the bottom of the screen and press enter to send.
2. Reacting: To react to a message, hover over it and click on the add reaction button (smiley face with a plus sign). Then select an emoji from the pop-up menu.
3. Tagging: You can mention another member by typing @ followed by their username. They will be notified of the mention.
Here are a few additional tips to make your Slack experience even better:
1. Direct Messages: You can send a private message to another member by clicking on their name and selecting ‘Direct Message.’
2. Notifications: Slack has a range of settings for notifications. You can choose to be notified of all messages, just direct messages, or mentions. Check out the settings to personalize your notification preferences.
3. Slack App: For staying connected on-the-go, download the Slack app for your smartphone.
Welcome to the Lumos Fitness Collective’s online community! We hope you’ll enjoy being a part of this vibrant and supportive network. Remember, our goal is to enhance your fitness journey, both within and outside the gym, while making it fun and engaging. Now go forth and engage – we can’t wait to chat with you!
