The Tripod Position

Hey there, fitness enthusiasts and handstand heroes of Lumos Fitness Collective!

Today, we’re going to tackle a nifty trick in our handstand and HSPU (Handstand Push-Up) arsenal – the mighty “Tripod Position.” This little gem is like the secret sauce in your favorite taco – it just makes everything better!

What’s the Tripod Position?

Picture a tripod – steady, balanced, and unshakable. That’s you, or at least, that’s going to be you. The tripod position is all about creating a stable base with your head and hands while you’re upside down. Imagine forming an equilateral triangle on the floor with your hands and head. This isn’t just about looking like a geometry whiz; it’s about finding that sweet spot of balance and control.

Why the Tripod Rocks for Wall Handstands and HSPUs:

1. Stability Galore: It’s like having the best suspension system while off-roading. You’re less wobbly, more controlled.

2. Power Distribution: Think of it as delegating tasks in a project. Each point of the tripod takes on part of the load, making the move efficient and less taxing.

3. Injury Prevention: Like wearing a seatbelt in a car, using the tripod position helps keep your neck and shoulders from complaining the next day.

How to Get into the Tripod Position:

1. Start with Your Hands: Place your hands about shoulder-width apart on the ground. Pretend you’re Spider-Man shooting webs from your fingertips for grip.

2. Bring in the Head: Gently place the top of your head on the ground, forming that all-important third point of the triangle. Note: your forehead is NOT the top of your head 🙂

3. Walk It In: With straight legs tippy toe your way forward until you can put your knees on your elbows/triceps.

Pro Tips:

– Neck Safety: Keep your neck neutral. No looking around as if you’re searching for the remote. See previous note re: forehead.

– Spread Those Fingers: Maximize your base. Imagine your hands are starfish clinging to a rock.

– Engage Your Midline: Keep your core tight. Imagine holding a plank while someone’s about to tickle you.

So there you have it, folks – the Tripod Position, your new best friend for wall handstands and HSPUs. It’s like finding the perfect rhythm in a dance, but upside down. Give it a try, feel the stability, and watch your handstand game level up!

As always, remember to warm up, stay hydrated, and most importantly, have fun! Any questions or triumphant success stories, feel free to share with the Lumos community. Let’s keep turning the world upside down together, one handstand at a time! ????????
