FRIDAY FLEX is dead, long live PHYSICAL EDUCATION

YouTube video

Hey there, Lumosites. Friday Flex readers. Random wanderers from the internet.
And—hi Mom and Dad.
Or maybe… just Mom and Dad?
Hi Mom. Hi Dad.

Alright, let’s start with some history.
In order from newest to oldest:
I’ve been writing my Friday Flex newsletter for about two years.
My gym, Lumos, is about to hit ten.
And I’ve been coaching for nearly fifteen years… which feels like a sentence someone else should say, not me.

Over that time, I’ve learned a lot — about sharing the joy of movement, building community, and trying to communicate ideas that actually help people.
It’s been meaningful, fulfilling… honestly, life-changing.

Which, of course, means I want to change something.

Not the gym. Not coaching.
But the way I share these ideas — the format, the delivery, the vibe.
So… Friday Flex is taking a break.
Or maybe it’s evolving.
Or maybe it’s being immolated in a fiery cataclysm of molten lava.
Either way — it’s out.

In its place, I’m starting something new: Physical Education.

Now, I started Friday Flex with no grand plan.
If I’m being honest, it was partly just a way to keep fresh content on the Lumos website and help with SEO — pretty unromantic, I know.
But over time, it became this grab bag of advice, opinion, and whatever random thought I had that week.
And while that’s been fun — and my friends seem to enjoy it — I’ve been craving something a little bigger in scope.

Physical Education is that something.
I want to teach more.
Tell more stories.
Dig deeper into what makes movement interesting, joyful, frustrating, even weird.
I want to talk about the teachers I’ve learned from — coaches, writers, thinkers — even the ones whose lessons I didn’t realize I’d learned until much later.

Mostly, I want to share my love for physical expression and exploration — the act of learning and moving and being in your body.

If you’re already a fitness enthusiast, my hope is you’ll pick up a new skill or idea or way of thinking about movement.
And if you’re new to this stuff, maybe you’ll think,
“Hey, that actually sounds kind of cool — maybe I could try that.”
And then, who knows — maybe you walk into your local gym.
Hopefully it’s Lumos.
And the rest is history.

And I’ll be honest — part of this is for me, too.
After fifteen years in the fitness industry, it’s easy to lose that wide-eyed awe you started with.
That sense of play and curiosity that first pulled you in.
I got my start as a teenager at my local YMCA, trying to copy the strongest guy in the gym.
It didn’t go well — but I was hooked.
And somewhere along the line, passion turned into profession, which turned into work.
So this project — Physical Education — is my way to reconnect.
To rediscover what’s fun, what’s beautiful, what’s weird and wonderful about physical culture.

And yes — it’s going to be mostly video essays.
If you know me, you know I love to write — but I also love to talk.
This lets me do both.
I’ll write scripts like this one, and I’ll record them.
So if you hate the sound of my smooth, rich baritone — you can still read in peace.
And if you prefer to watch and listen, you can do that too.

So, I guess this marks the death of Friday Flex…
and the birth of Physical Education.
Unless I change my mind and resurrect it later.

Either way — thanks for being here.
For reading, for watching, for caring.
Even if it’s just you again…
